A Fine Romance
“Why don’t you go ahead and give him a BIG KISS?”
Ginger Rogers is asked in this old time classic, A Fine Romance.
“Oh, don’t be SILLY!” she replies.
Romance isn’t always chocolates and roses. Quarrels and arguments will and do arise. When two different people come together under one roof to make one home and one family, two different opinions and viewpoints come along. In our case, my husband and have are also bringing together two different cultures. Not always easy. I’m still learning the Aussie humor…much different from American.
He’s still learning that it’s going to take me a little bit longer to understand the workings of the roadways here. Which side of the car park (parking lot) do I walk on so as not to get hit by a car? Which direction is the traffic coming from when crossing the street? Flipping it all around in my mind is not easily done. It’s confusing! While I’m learning not to be so sensitive to his humor, he’s learning to have more patience with me.
In this Fine Romance of ours, the first thing we did was take divorce off the table. Divorce simply is not an option for us. Second, we decided to agree to disagree. Third, to communicate everything. I’m prone to assuming what he will think and before I’ve asked him, I have had a whole conversation in my head and decided it best not to bring the issue up…not good!
How’s your Fine Romance? Are you like a couple of hot tomatoes? Or are you as cold as yesterday’s mashed potatoes?
Go ahead…be silly….give him a BIG KISS! Start enjoying a fine romance!
Christmas Romance
Tea for Two
Enjoy a romantic dinner with your husband…where he does all the cooking. My husband’s signature dish:
Cajun Chicken…Mmmm…Mmmm! Have your husband visit my recipe page to cook it for you tonight.
“You say toe-may-toe, I say tah-mah-tah”
Learn to love your differences. My Australian husband talks funny. His American wife speaks strangely, too. Do we ever understand each other? He is forever teaching me how to speak English properly. I am forever correcting his English. We laugh a lot at each other’s language…which essentially is the same. After all, we are both speaking English!
It is comical to go out to a restaurant, order ice water, and have the waitress incoherently stare at you. Aren’t we speaking the same language? Apparently not. My husband chuckles and interprets my American English for the poor girl. Sometimes I forget that I am the foreigner. “Hav’ a go, Mate!” Learn to love your differences.
Pet Names
Kindle some romance with your husband today. See what effect a pet name will have on him…terms of endearment…sweet nothings. No more name calling…choose a loving name to call him. Pepper him with encouragement. It is wonderful being in love…take some names from the above clip.
“Neverthless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.” Ephesians 5:33
Respect…romantic? Oh…yes! Respect is love in the language of a husband. Men crave respect more than love. Just the opposite of us. Women crave love more than respect.
It is my prayer that today I bring glory to God by honoring my husband in all things…little and big. My eyes will be open to see when I need to ask forgiveness for something. I will be made aware of where I should change, instead of being blinded by how I think he should change. My grip on the things I should let go off will by loosened by God’s grace. I will learn how to respect my husband, and to see him as God sees him. Any with me? Join the challenge at fruitinseason.blogspot.com
Let’s uphold one another in prayer as we learn to honor our husbands.
Please leave a comment to let me know you are with me!
Love Notes
I like to surprise Aaron with a handwritten love note, either tucked in with his lunch or secretly slid into his pocket when I send him off to work with a kiss. He loves finding these notes later in the day. He leaves me “I love you” notes, too. Sometimes written on the bathroom mirror. Other times he’s quietly sat at the computer and made some “I love you” on the paint program and left it open on the screen. I’ll randomly leave “I love you” for him some place he’s sure to find it written on a scrap of paper. Leaving love notes for one another is fun. Surprise your loved one today with an “I love you”!
Romantic Dinner
Ah…newlyweds! Aaron and I will be celebrating our 7 month anniversary October 3rd. We are so in love!
I like to surprise Aaron with a themed meal once in awhile. For example, he loved the Cuban meal I made. I did my best to set the atmosphere. A bit difficult considering no Latin country is anywhere near Australia. So, I went to the Internet. I found delicious recipes at www.cooks.com, many international dishes. YouTube was also a great help for providing some Latin music. I also found many radio stations on the web with a good selection of Latin sounds. With the meal and the music taken care of, I rummaged through my clothes for something “Cuban” to wear. I found a skirt and top that would fit the bill, and decided to go barefoot. I freshened up my make-up, spritzed on some perfume, and pulled my hair back into a smooth pony tail. Candles were a finishing touch to the Cuban setting. (Yes, to any and every romantic meal.)
Aaron arrived home from work welcomed by the fragrant smells of the Cuban dishes, sultry Latin music, lovely candle light, and a kiss from his beautiful bride. It was a wonderful evening. I so enjoy these times together, knowing they will be few and far between once God blesses us with children.
With a little creativity, it is possible to create a lovely romantic evening for you and your husband using what you already have. Try it tonight!
That’s Amore!
