“Fit”full Joy

Getting healthy always seems to be top on the New Year’s Resolution list.  I have been very relaxed when it comes to keeping New Year’s Resolutions.  Setting goals is great.  Actually striving to achieve them is even better.  Rather than just voicing a proclamation, I’m going to do something about it…take action.  In fact, be more active.  Plan better meals.  Take 20 minutes everyday to exercise in some way.  I decided blogging about it would help me stick to it.  So, this is where I will keep a log of what I am doing.  I figure if I put it on public display, I will be more likely to keep doing it.  Anyone care to join me?

Be creative.  There are many ways to be fit and active.  You don’t need a home gym to get fit.  Don’t have 20 minutes…life too busy?  Start small.  Begin with 5 or 10 minutes and work up to 20 minutes a day.  No time every day?  Do you have time every other day? Again, start small.  Let’s encourage one another as we take action to be more healthy this year.  May it become a life style…not just something we did in 2008.  Who’s with me?  :)

Anyone else having a hard time with this daily exercise?  I seem to have lost motivation.  I did much better last month.  How do you keep yourself going?

———————–

February 20, 2008

This month has been really hard for me to get into a daily routine of exercising.  I have a hard time each day getting motivated.  I think things will be easier when the temperature finally cools down.  I’ve decided that I will only post when I have done exercise.

Walking was going to be the order of the day.  Well, that plan quickly changed, as I live in a tropical climate.  Which I seem to still be adjusting to…I have experienced heat exhaustion before.  Today it came on quickly.  I was surprised.  It’s been raining for the past week.  Today it looked like it was going to clear up, so I headed out.  I needed to make a trip to the Post Office and then to the mall.  The mall is where I planned to do my walking since it is so wet outside.  I waited out in the steamy heat for 20 minutes before giving up on the bus.  I must have been a bit dehydrated to begin with, otherwise I should have been fine.  However, the bus never came.  After waiting 20 minutes in the steamy heat I was begining to bake!  With no sign of the bus, I decided these errands could wait for another day.  I knew I needed to cool my body temperature down.  Returning home, I also decided my body needed a rest today from my daily workout routine.  Let this be a lesson to us all:  Hydrate!  Hydrate!  Hydrate!

Mixing things up with another fun warm up exercise: Salsa Fitness Choreography

This is about a 2 minute video.  I’m no Salsa dancer…I spent 6 minutes trying to mimic the moves…I gave up on learning them.  Looking back,I think all  I ended up doing was spinning, clapping, and kicking.  Oh, well!  It served its purpose as a warm-up…it got my heart pumping and ready for my daily work out.  Decidedly, for the time being, I’ll stick to salsa with tortilla chips…mild, please!

Exercise TV Workout followed my Salsa warm-up

Bikini Body Ready  Again, a short video…only a preview to the full-length version…I let the on-line video repeat itself three or four times.  (I’d love to be doing the full version of these videos, but must be frugal and save money right now.)  This routine works the whole body…bikini or bath robe, this routine is great for all areas.

-Healthy Body, Healthy Baby  Low impact workout…ideal for preparing your body for pregnancy, during pregnancy, and for delivery.  I belong to the first category!  Hoping and praying for a baby this year!

Plank  “This quick move is a great way to build endurance in both the abs and back, as well as stabilizer muscles.” (Exercise TV description)  Body Beware!  This is a difficult endurance exercise.  I don’t think I will be incorporating this into my work out routine anytime soon.  At the time, I thought it was a good idea, but soon discovered how very wrong I was.

- Cool down stretches…my own…not from Exercise TV

Total Time:  20 minutes

Having trouble getting started?  Here’s a fun way to warm up and get you going:

A Brasillian inspired dance workout routine for Nike
It took me a few times through to get the hang of it.  I’m no dancer.  Thanks to Nike and YouTube, I can learn.  It’s helpful to pause, rewind, etc…The point of this was for warming up, afterall.  It was fun, too!  Yes, they moved a bit too fast for me at first, but I soon caught on.  Learning the steps ate up some of the 20 minutes for my workout time…but that’s okay.  I’m only a beginner.  Slowly but surely.  This is for a healthy lifestyle more than anything else.  YouTube is another great place to find workout routines.
- Lunges (this leg exercise will shape and tone your legs)
-Tuck Crunch (really strengthen those abs)
- Crazy 8 style Abs (tone and tighten that problem area that everyone wants washboard style with this quick and effective workout)
- Cool Down Stretches
Total Time:  20 minutes  +

Happy New Year, Everyone!

I found a useful site this morning for working out…Exercise TV.  Browsing through their list of videos, I found some great online instruction.  Some of which were only previews, but none the less, it got me started.  I was able to chose workouts that focused on areas I wanted to give the most attention to:  arms, legs, abs, thighs, etc…  Exercise TV offers a wide range of instruction through online videos, purchasing videos, trainers, and such.  Have a look for yourself.  :)

Tone & Sculpt

-Lower body cardio workout will tone up your thighs and burn calories

- Glute workout titled “Bootylicious Buns”

- “Tank Top Arms” this targets your abs and upper body using light weights (I grabbed two cans of baked beans from my pantry and used them as my weights)

- “Standing Abs” this is a crunch-free way to work out those ab muscles

- Cool Down Stretching found at exercise.lifetips.com.  Another great site for working out.

These Ruts happen. I was in a rut most of December. I just had to force myself to get started again after New Year’s. Once I started back up, I realized how much I’d missed it, and how much better I felt when I was exercising daily.
